Loose skin on your legs and arms? Here’s how to treat it!

Hi my beauties! Today I’m going to talk about something that I get a lot of requests for not only in my office but also in my DM’s on Instagram, and that is how to tighten loose or saggy skin on the body!

The skin on our bodies is much different than the skin on our faces. For example, body skin lacks as many sebaceous glands, might contain terminal hairs, and can vary in thickness in different parts of the body. So we need to treat our bodies a little differently than we do our faces.

As we age, we lose collagen and elastin in our body and might start to see sagging and loosening of the skin. Here are my favorite ways to tighten loose and sagging body skin:

Biostimulatory fillers

Biostimulatory fillers are amazing to help tighten the skin around the body. They stimulate your body’s own regenerative processes to produce collagen and elastin, just giving your skin a tighter and more youthful appearance. I usually recommend doing 3 treatments spaced 1 month apart. You won’t see results as drastic as you would from getting surgery, but the benefit of this over surgery is that you don’t get the drastic scarring that often comes with surgery.

Lasers & tightening devices

These treatments help improve collagen and elastin stores for smoother younger looking skin. Thermage is one of my favorite energy based devices. Thermage uses heat in the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate fibroblasts to make collagen. The results of thermage are very operator dependent, so it’s imperative that you go to someone who is very well trained and well versed in using thermage so that you get optimal results and reduce your risk for an adverse effect.
Lasers can have a dramatic impact as well. Lasers work more superficially than energy devices, working in the epidermis as opposed to the dermis, so if you use lasers paired with thermage you can get what I call a “1+1=3” result - meaning you get amazing results that amplify each other!

Pico laser

This device is amazing for treating brown spots on the skin. You can do this treatment anywhere that you have brown spots, and it’s especially popular for treating the backs of hands. It’s more of a spot treatment than a large location treatment.

Fraxel

Fraxel is amazing for all over-diffuse light spots, dark spots, or photo damage. You can get beautiful results from fraxel when looking to even out skin tone and texture.

VBeam

VBeam is amazing for redness and rudiness in the skin. This can often come from photo damage over the years, so using VBeam will remove that redness in the skin and give a smoother and more even appearance.

So those are the in-office treatments that I love for addressing body skin issues, but let’s also talk about a couple of things you can do at home.

Ammonium lactate lotions

For a more affordable option you can use Amlactin lotion at home. This lotion uses ammonium lactate to gently but effectively resurface the skin on a topical level. It helps with texture and can help fade superficial brown spots.

Tretinoin

One of my favorite things to do is once or twice a week mix some tretinoin with my moisturizer and apply all over my body. This will help even out tone, texture, and tighten the skin over time. You do need a prescription for tretinoin, but it’s a much more cost effective option than applying products formulated for the face all over your body.

SPF

As always, SPF is our first line of defense against skin damage from the sun and environmental pollutants. So make sure to use sun protection every time your body is exposed to the sun!

It’s so important to take care of our body skin as much as we take care of our face! To hear more in depth about each of these treatments check out my YouTube video below. Make sure to leave a comment and let me know what you want to see me do a video on next!
